On Soul Mates

I remembered that I had this quote from one of my favorite book series ever, Vampire Academy. This particular book in the series is called Last Sacrifice and it is definitely the best in the entire series (maybe because it's the last one =[  ) But I thought this was an interesting quote that I believe in strongly.

See, when it comes to relationships, I believe that one person shouldn't be dependent on the other one.  I believe in equal standing, none of this double standard stuff (maybe I'm just optimistic.) I believe that you need to be happy with yourself before you can really learn to love someone else. So when I saw this, it just hit me right across the face.

"I don't believe in soul-mates, not exactly. I think it's ridiculous to think there's only one person out there for us. What if your 'soul mate' lives in Zimbabwe? What if he dies young? I also think 'two souls becoming one' is ridiculous. You need to hold onto yourself. But I do believe in souls being in sync, souls that mirror each other."- Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead

Being "souls in sync" and "souls that mirror each other" to me is what it should be like.  You don't have to be the same person, you don't have to like the same things, but you compliment each other, you make each other happy, and you're happy with yourselves as individuals as well.  I can't over-analyze this quote, I can just say that it strengthens my current beliefs. I've never seen it put like that, and as I said in the last post, I can't always find the words. But that quote right there is what I'm trying to say.

On a side note, if you want to listen to a song that will give you a real flashback to the 90's, this is "At the Beginning" Sung by Richard Marx and Donna Lewis. If that doesn't ring any bells to you, try to remember the song at the end of the movie "Anastasia."

  1. Ahh I love quotes, and I'll have to admit quotes on love that I truly get really get me. I think this quote is so true too. It's really sweet, but at the same time emphasizes that people still need independance. It's so frustrating when people are completely dependant upon their boyfriend/girlfriend/what-have-it. Goood quote!
